If you or your kids would like to get involved with this build that will involved woodworking, 3D printing, and programming, please join us. A second project we would like to initiate is a collaboration with the Nation of Makers community to develop an access control framework for Makerspaces in general.

Stained Glass Mosaic - Create a unique glass mosaic tray using scrap stained glass, glue and grout! You will choose a home decor tray from a variety of secondhand trays that Nancy has collected from thrift shops and estate sales. You can design your own art or use a pattern that is provided. Learn to Solder! – Our learn-to-solder class includes everything you need for a head-start into the wondrous world of electronics and is appropriate for kids. The fun-to-assemble flashing European siren kit includes beginning electronic theory, parts identification including color code, soldering practice, and a soldering iron, solder, wire cutters, an industrial-grade circuit board, and all components. This 4 hour class includes a lot of activities that will help you start to learn about the world of electronics. This class makes a great prerequisite to our more advanced Arduino and Raspberry Pi classes. Class size is limited to 5 students, so sign up now!

Back Again! Introduction to CAD -In this class we will teach you the basics of computer-aided design (CAD) using Autodesk Fusion 360. We will cover navigation of the software, 2D sketching tools and process, and then you’ll create a 3D design based on a provided sample object; including part creation, assembly, and animation. After the class, the instructor will be available to handle additional questions. You must be a member of the Rochester Makerspace to take this class! This class is limited to 4 Students and is available for free to members.
Another Favorite Returns! CNC Router Training - This 4 hour class will be taught on the RMS 4x4 CNC Router using Mach4 machine control software. The course will provide an overview of the machine and the processes and functions necessary to perform basic operations and to execute a G-code program. Instruction will focus on setup and safe operation of the CNC router and a basic understanding of the common G & M codes involved in a typical program. The new Mach4 Wizard utility that provides the ability to easily create basic toolpath g-code using an easy to use graphical interface will also be demonstrated. The class will touch upon, but does not include instruction on how to design or program toolpaths using CAD/CAM software. (See Introduction to CAD)
Upon completion of this class each student will be asked to demonstrate they understand the subject matter and repeat the steps taught in the class. Successful students will be entered into the Makerspace record of members certified to use the CNC Routers. Prerequisites for this class include completion of the Makerspace Safety Orientation for new members. It is strongly suggested that you the RMS 4x4 CNC Router Training Manual in its entirety prior to your training and study the additional information provided in the links. Sessions are currently limited to 3 students and are free for members of the Rochester Makerspace.
Stained Glass Workshop - During four sessions you will explore color and design while creating a unique piece of stained glass art. You will learn the elements of design, cutting glass, using a glass grinder, using copper foil (the Tiffany stained glass method), soldering and various finishing methods. Students do not need to bring their own tools as everything is provided. However, if you already have tools and/or glass, feel free to bring what you have. The Rochester Makerspace has a wonderful stained glass studio, with tools and glass for you to use. Although you may want to purchase more glass depending on the project you choose.The goal in this short course is to give you the knowledge and practice to continue making stained glass art on your own. Please commit to each of these four consecutive Wednesdays - each session builds on the previous!
Introduction to Machine Tools - Here's your chance to make something at the Rochester Makerspace and find out if machining metal interests you. During this class for beginners, you and a few other makers will create a metal car using a machine mill and lathe. Introduction to Woodworking - The most popular class at the Rochester Makerspace is now even more fun. We'll help you make something that you can take home. We'll teach you how to use our table saw, band saw, joiner, planer, drill press and stationary sander. You'll get a chance to use each of these machines as you make a toy car in our wood shop. Wood Lathe Introduction - In this two-hour class, you'll learn the essentials of wood-lathe operation and safety. You'll learn how to set up the lathe for turning, the uses of various wood-turning chisels, and proper technique.
